The Generosity of Others :)

Today the people of Liverpool did the city proud, yet again.

The Caledonia held an Animal Awareness Afternoon for the Freshfields Animal Rescue and the donations flooded in.

Even if people could not stay and enjoy a pint (it is a great pub after all!) they still popped in with donations of toys, food, bedding, travel cases etc for both cats and dogs!

Just a few squares for blankets
We where aiming to make 1 blanket and have ended up with 3, a toy ball and the promise of more squares for more blankets!

I even managed to get my Christmas cards for this year :)

What was especially wonderful was the sense of community that was displayed today by owners of four legged friends! There where puppies everywhere all playing nicely whilst their owners enjoyed the refreshments.

A blur of doggies
The representatives of Freshfields Animal Rescue where very grateful for all the donations, they even turned their hand to knitting some squares!

If you could not make today but would still like to make a donation then The Caledonia will still be taking donations to be delivered at a later date to the centre.

If you are not sure what to donate then suggested items are; wet/dry cat or dog food, toys, treats and blankets/animal bedding.

Me and Michelle had one issue today, an that was leaving Bonnie, The Caledonia's new dachshund puppy!

Look at that face!

She's got gorgeous fluffy ears and is too small and cute for words!

Cuddle time!

Big puppy eyes

She kept me company whilst I sewed together some squares before falling asleep, tired after a full days play!

Huge thanks to everyone who attended and gave up their time today and dont forget if you would like to make a donation The Caledonia are still accepting items for another week or so :)

Caledonia Charity Event

If you are a resident of Liverpool then you will have heard of the tragic loss of Yasmin Jones, the barmaid at The Caledonia and recent graduate of John Moores University who lost her life trying to save another's (news report here).

On Saturday 11th October, The Caledonia will be holding a special charity event for Freshfields Animal Rescue in honour of Yasmin and Mr Huski.

Please join us this Saturday 11-4 for an afternoon of Animal Awareness! Whole family are welcome with activities and stalls for folks of all ages.

We are also accepting donations in the memory of our lost pub pooch Mr Huski for Freshfields Animal rescue of bedding (towels, sheets, blankets etc.) toys, and animal feed. Take a look at their 'wish list' for more ideas!

We also have stalls from Freshfields Animal Rescue, Blue Ocean Planet, Caged North West, Merseyside Animal Awareness and more!

Girl On Purl Action will be there having an all day craft meet, in a pub, for a good cause!

We will be on hand with wool and patterns for you to make your own animal a little present, all we are asking for is a small donation towards the charity!

We are also asking for donations of knitted or crochet 6 x 6 inch squares which we are going to sew together to make blankets for donation to Freshfields Animal Rescue!

Any colours! Any stitch type! Any pattern (just not political)!

Even if you cant craft there is plenty on all day, even if you just pop in to say hello, its for a very good cause!

London!

On Monday me & the boy set off to London for a jaunt for his birthday (he's now 32! Makes me feel old as I organised his 25th birthday drinks!) and had a wonderful time!

The weather was great, the hotel was hilariously basic with its white walls, white bedding, white bathroom, white mirror and kettle (themed as a mental asylum we felt). To use the loo you had to tuck your knees under the sink, there was no bedside table (here is my Four In A Bed addiction coming out!) and the table was just a piece of (painted white) wood screwed onto the wall.

Poppies at The Tower of London
We managed to cram a lot into our full 3 days including The Imperial War Museum (AMAZING!), Buckingham Palace, Camden Lock (spent most of the boys birthday in Mega City Comics but...), The Natural History Museum, Tower Bridge, HMS Belfast and The Tower of London for the poppies! They are incredible and change the tone of the area completely.

Quick cheeky phone camera shot!
I even found wool wrapped around the railings of Southwalk Cathedral! Sadly this Campaign for Wool event is taking place this weekend and we where slaves to the day job/scheduled return train tickets/income/no hotel so could not stay for it but I would have loved to have seen it! Managed to get a quick sneeky look at them installing the main hall display

Wool weaved around the railings
You would have thought we would have had a nice break and after resting my injuries I'd be raring to go business wise but no...we are sick!

If I fail on any of these you are allowed to give me a kick up the bum reminder :)
